With the aim of reducing the number of works accidents, It is vital to be able to answer the question: What should I do in terms of workers safety and health in my company in this 2018?

Occupational health and safety emergence, has supposed a 180 degree change, both in the working life and day by day of workers.

From ECB Engineering Firm, we want to give the importance it deserves to this day that has changed the all worker lives. For us, as a business consultant focused on personnel selection, feel safe and healthy in our jobs is essential to make the company a place where optimal conditions are combined so that all workers can develop their work and their operations in the best possible way.

This great occupational health transformation goes back to the Industrial Revolution, when the rights of workers as such arise. But it is not until the 70s when there really is an improvement in the quality of life of employees, thanks to the pressure exerted by the labor unions at this time.

Since then, all business agents are involved in this matter. Understanding this task, such as the equipment provision and responsibilities assumption both by the employer, and by workers of comply with occupational health and safety protocols.

What jobs do I need to take care of job security in my company?

To mitigate these data there are two different slopes. On the one hand, there are jobs related to health, security and environment. Profiles as a quality technician and environment or security and health technician, who are responsible for various responsibilities: from safety audits in plant to supervision and control of work accidents.

Job security profiles have the necessary knowledge about the protective materials that should be used in each workplace. They are responsible for verifying the worker physical training to perform their work. In this same line, the PRL can avoid accidents by training workers in the treatment of high temperatures in heat waves.

Definitely, although health and safety technicians cannot avoid human errors, for example the fall of a tool, what they do is prevent any damage that these errors may cause.

On the other hand, we can find companies whose reason for being is worker protection, as material supply. These companies are called EPIs or what is the same, Individual Protection Equipment.

This important sector have a great business concentration although it is becoming smaller by the companies that are forced to leave the market due to the competition existing in the cost prices and retail. For this reason, most of the Spanish companies that are operating in the EPIs sector have decided to outsource their production, especially to Asia and Africa, with the aim of lowering costs, being more competitive and surviving in a sector that presents so much rivalry.

How do I improve job security in my company?

In this sense, we have to continue advance to our quality labor life improve, making use of both PRL professionals and EPI companies. By combining all our efforts we will reduce this data to the maximum.

In ECB Engineering firm we are specialized in the search and hiring of security and health professionals with experience in fields such us risks prevention or plants control, among others. We know the difficulties to find this type of profiles and act as allies of our client companies to find the best candidates and finalize the selection process with the desired success. Consult our job offers.

It is unquestionable that both technology and the labour market are changing at an exponential rate, a good example of this: IT profiles were not very demanded 10 years ago. Nowdays they are one of the most successful careers. The big challenge of the Industry 4.0 is a big deal for society, for this reason the media has written about the pros and cons of this situation, creating discussions and providing different points of view. That is why in ECB engineering firm, we want to give an optimistic view, based in our expertise in human resources in the technology sector, also specialized in the supply of high-quality technical and professional talent to a broad spectrum of industries worldwide.

Technology as a support, not as an enemy

The evolution of technology is generating changes both in our professional career and on the labour market. On the one hand, the professional career debate focuses on whether the technology creates or destroys Jobs. From our own experience, we claim that technology companies are creating more new positions than those that are becoming outdated.

On the other hand, the labour market evolves creating positions related to technology. For instance, within an assembly line the manpower that used to be required, has nowadays being replaced by machines that make the same process in less time. Although some kind of Jobs has become obsolete. It is important to remember that we, humans, control the machines, and not the other way around. Indeed, these machines need people responsible for their design, manufacture, production, maintenance… Actually, technology does not generate unemployment but it has changed the labour market. We have to be positive, we should not be afraid of the future or the changes this technological revolution keeps bringing to us. In contrast, we must use the technology as a support, and a motivation to achieve success. Also adapting positions and vocational training to Technology.

Are we prepared to face this?

Let`s update vocational training

Technology is moving at a pace faster than vocational training does, placing the education sector’s offer a step behind the companies’ demand. In fact, according to the data provided by the European Commision, 40% of the companies doesn’t find workers with the right profile (source: abc.es). One of the reasons causing this situation is the absence of digital subjects in most careers. This leaves the new profiles that are stepping into the job market without the tecnological knowledge demanded by companies.

Education must be updated in two different ways: the first one is adding training in digital subjects, and the second one is changing the student’s mentality teaching them that changes are the only constant today. To reduce the gap between the demand of corporations and the supply of professionals, the education system should focus both on offering technical skills adapted to the demand of the labour market and on an emotional education insisting on a constant readiness to adapt to changes. The digital worker is a challenge for companies, every day new technologies and methodologies of work are born, and we must adapt to them. Today we are discussing about robots or the use of machines in the chain of production, but within 40 years there will be a new innovation that will change the rules of the game all over again.

What job vacancies bring with it the industry 4.0?

4.0 vision is seeking more than ever to add value and to be unique for their customers. Therefore it gives equal importance to candidate’s soft profile and educational degree.4.0 Industry requires people with interdisciplinary skills, empathetic and creative, with the flexibility and willingness to be constantly learning. Without doubt, the most demanded positions will be those related to new technologies. On one hand, the industrial sector requires a greater amount of profiles related to the automation and Robotics in production plants. Quite notable automotive, food, machinery and electronics sectors will increase their demands in: engineers specialized in robotics, PLC’s programmers (Programmable Logic Controller), along with engineers design and mechanics.

In respect of TIC positions brought by the industry 4.0, there are: programmers and software developers, especially for mobile; in the area of security increases the demand of Threat Hunters, Malware analysts, and experts in Ethical Hacking. The vast amount of data handling by companies created the necessity of Big Data and Cloud Computing specialist. These profiles are: architects of solutions Spark or Cloudera, and architects of the 3 leading technologies in the cloud (AWS – Amazon, Azure – Microsoft) and IBM Bluemix). Let’s not forget about the platform integration experts, who are more and more demanded by companies in order to integrate all data in one system.

ECB Engineering Firm has recruiters specialised in the recruitment and talent attraction of all specific professional profiles named above. Click here for more information. Industry strength by itself alone both companies and employees that they renewed, so both sides have to internalize the following: Adapting to constant change means survival.

Let’s go a little further with the debate,

Do you think that this situation is affecting the conciliation of family life?

We spend at work many daily active hours. Worth feeling comfortable all those hours that we invest in our professional part?

Clearly, the answer is YES! It is worth to try it.

Love to work or your profession It is not so different from the love in relationships. No couple can survive without care for their relationship or solve problems on time. In the same way acts the affection for the work. It is possible you lose your work and profession motivation at one point, even if you have always been satisfied with your job.

First of all, You should not scare because it is a natural situation in our lifes. Daily routine or not having new goals can lead you to dissatisfaction, So do not stop yourself before it is too late! To do this, you should analyze the aspects that bother you and elaborate an action plan.

As we know that work, apart from being our economic means is a very important part of our life, we would like to share with you some advices for improve your laboral relationship:

You are the main character

The only person who can help you to grow professionally is yourself. For this reason, you should find the correct tools to change the situation. It is important to make an effort to find the motivation again, wich is the motor that improves you.

Listen to steve, link the dots

Steve Jobs gave a speech, in Standford university, on three stories of his life and how these helped him to achieve success. In the first story he spoke about the importance of joining the dots. In this line, Jobs learned calligraphy at university. By then it did not make professional sense but he liked it. Ten years later he understood its importance when he developed his first Mac. He could include the best the market typographies to their computers, which became the differential value of the brand and the success of sales. Nowadays, maybe you do not realize the points that will lead you to success. For this reason, you have to analyze the tasks that are giving you true value to your professional career and take advantage of the experience and skills you are acquiring.

Enjoy the people

The most relevant factors of enjoying good occupational health is the relationship with our co-workers. It is very important to have a good relationship inside our job because they improve your mood and your motivation to perform your functions. Following this line, Seek the support of your colleagues with whom you feel more affinity.

Get away of the dark side

Always, In all the jobs there are colleagues who like to highlight the negative aspects of the company, the sector, the bosses, etc. Talking repeatedly about them will not change anything. For this reason, it is recommended to avoid negativity and highlight the positive aspects of both your position and the company where you are. The goal is to fight for what can be improved and get away when the conversations are not going to be productive.

Closed for rest

Even if you have a lot of work, it is recommended that you rest for a few minutes. It will help you to refresh the ideas and to be more productive. In relation with this, you can enjoy open air, talk with a partner or read something different are the best way to find the solution you were looking for. At same time, do your best to disconnect and enjoy your personal time at the end of your workday.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

When we have been doing the same thing for a long time, we can lose the objective and not to see clearly the importance and value of our work. On the other hand, a source of professional motivation it could be to know the value of what you do and how important it is to other people and departments in your company. If you do not have external recognition, be proud of your achievements yourself. Go out to dinner for celebrating the good work you have done!

To infinity and beyond

Each job requires a time for people to feel the need to have new challenges that motivate them. So, try to have a map drawn with your professional career but with flexibility because life is full of unforeseen events and do not obsess about fulfilling the times. Assess the possibility of having a job advancement and if it is not the right time, look for new skills that you can develop in relation with that goal. This advice will help you to see things in a different way with a clear goal in your head.

In any case, any tools that you put into practice, remember that you are the only person who can help you. Recognize what are the problem causes is a way to guide solutions that you need. It is possible to work in the position that you like, you should try it. It is worth to reach the infinite!

The CV is our professional presentation letter. Probably, before starting to develop your CV you have looked for some ideas and advice on the internet to make the best summary of your work experience. As personnel selection consulting company, we recommend you complementing the CV information with your reached achievements.
First of all, content is the most important thing in our CV. But, do you know how to guide your entire career towards your achieved achievements?
The selectors want to know what the results you have achieved in your previous experiences are. In this way, they will see what achievements you can achieve inside the company and what you can contribute it.
In many occasions we do not know what have been the goals we have achieved in each job. From ECB Engineering Firm we have made a short guide to help you in this way.

1. 1. Don´t exclude yourself. All positions have achievements.

There are work positions where is easier identify achievements than others. Do not think that only CEOs reach achievements. Each work position exist because is expected a result from it. For this reason, you must be aware that achievements are specific improvements, assumed challenges and your ability to achieve them.

2. Start by making a list

Firstly, you should do a list of all functions you have performed. In this way, you will identify your achievements made. In addition, you can help yourself searching in employment sites. Review your list elaborately, ask yourself why you have done each of your functions and what has been the objective of it. Finally of this, you will have a results and achievements sketch. Focus your questions on 3 states: money, time and efforts.

Ask yourself about sales increase / profits or decrease expenses, time or effort to achieve the company goals: measures that you have implemented, process optimization…

3. 3. Don´t forget to be concise

Once you have identified your achievements, do not include all of it in you CV because the aim is to be concise. About this, your CV must adapt to a maximum space of two pages. So, choose one or two relevant achievements, explaining the potential value that you can bring to the new company.

Focus on the most determinant achievements of your career: Do not include the least relevant information, you will have time to highlight it in a personal interview. At this point, it is advisable to dispense with far removed in time information or not important information for new company.

4. And, where do you include it?

Your document should be coherent and shocking and for this, you must analyze where your achievements are. We recommend you not to make a different section but include it within specific professional experience of each company. In this way, use the action-result methodology: Firstly, describe the performed function and then, write an achievement example.

For instance, if you are a web programmer, you can start describing your functions and highlighting an important result. Web sites programmer and development. Completion of 5 web pages developed using innovative technologies and tools (JAVA, JAVASCRIPT, ANGULAR JS, HTML5, CSS3).

5. The numbers matter

Measuring your results in numbers are easier for selectors. Because of this, you should think your achievements in quantitative and measurable results. Here, remember the three relevant elements: money, time and efforts.

A commercial area example it would be: Business development, customer acquisition and loyalty (function): new client contribution, a multi-channel company in IT sector with an average turnover of XXXX annual euros (achievements).

6. synthesis focused on achievements

Nowadays, include a short profile summary at the beginning of your CV will help you to explain better your document. In relation with this, we recommend you including a goal which you want to achieve in your next position. In this part, you should identify which is your next professional aim and present it clearly.

These types of complementary knowledge examples will present your skills in a clear way about what can you achieve inside new company and the value you can bring to the department.

To have a guide visual summary, we have included an infographic which can help you to guide your cv across your professional achievements.

An attractive programmer cv should be understandable for any type of reader. An important goal while writing a cv of an IT expert is that a non-technical professional understand it. In every selection process, many professionals very different from each other will evaluate your cv: a HR specialist, a business unit manager, and maybe even an IT expert specialized in your role tasks. This is why we must pay attention to both: presenting and organizing the information.

Programmers are nowadays one of the most demanded profiles, but they manage a lot of information that can be hard to organize in a two pages document. In the case of a programmer’s cv there are 3 elements that must be included: the technologies mastered, the finished projects, and the role developed in every project.

ECB Engineering firm, a recruitment company specialized in the technology sector, gathers in this post some remarkable tips than can be used to improve a programmer’s cv, taking into account that the final goal of a cv is always getting an appealing job interview.

If you are not a fan of reading, there is an infographic at the end of the post with the 12 things every programmer cv should have

1.Technologies in a Programmer Cv

One of the most common mistakes is to create a section where all the technologies are stack one after another in an infinite line. This doesn’t allow an IT recruiter to understand your level in any of them. The point many programmer’s cv share in common is the list of technologies. For the reader not to lose interest in yours, add further information after every technology.

2.Organizing Technologies

We recommend to include the technologies in the projects you have developed, don’t abandon them without the rest of the information that could be crucial for a new job: the module and what you used it for. In this case, a section with the technologies you master makes sense, because every technology will be followed by a description and it is part of a specific project. Don’t worry if some technologies are repeated in different projects because that shows your experience.

State-of-the-art technologies are highly valued by recruiters because they indicates that you remain up to date. Complementary technologies are also important because they show how your professional profiles is evolving.

3.Include those you master

There are too many technologies out there in the market: software programming technologies, apps programming technologies, web programming technologies… it is an endless list. Prioritize those you master according to its extended use, durability or because they are the latest one.

The usual languages: Java, Ruby, Phyton, C#.Net

Apple & Google: Mobility – objective-C y Swift (iOS) and JAVA-Android SDK (Android)

Web: AngularJS (Javascript), HTML5, CSS3…

Database: SQL server, oracle and MySQL remain in the top. The new ones are MongoDB or HBase

Big Data: Ecosystems such as Hadoop and Spark

4.Projects

The chronological order continues to be the most functional one because it shows the professional evolution of a candidate. It also facilitates the reader to understand your career. We recommend to add a short description of the projects you have developed in every company you have worked for.

An important information every IT recruiter misses in a programmer cv is: the phase of the project. There is a huge difference between a complete new project and one that is in a maintenance phase. A very good thing to do is to include a link to the project, but this is as good as difficult to do.

5.Working Team

Being part of a work team, the role you play on it or the skill to manage a team is a remarkable information to add in a programmer cv because it says a lot about you. Remember to add how many people were part of every project you include in your cv, your responsibility within the team, and the geographical location, if they were sit next to you or if they work in an office in the other part of the planet. Feel free to write if you were the only programming in a project, it means that you are quite responsible and organized.

6.Achievements

The goals you achieved in your previous professional experience help the reader to visualize your future potential. Time and cost are two important elements to take into account when talking about objectives. Quantitative data related to time and money are easy facts to measure the objectives you’ve met during your career.

7.Portfolio

Few are the professions with the advantage of including a short link that can describe your work so easily. IT professionals have the chance to show their work in detail, increasing their probabilities to be hired. Don’t miss that chance, include in your cv a link to your work and show the world how good you are!

8.Personal Projects and Online Communities

The time spent in personal projects related to your professional career are the best way to show your passion for technology, your curiosity and self-learning. These projects, as well as your participation in online communities, say more about your experience than any other project you’ve developed. Both of them are valuable features, so don’t be afraid to write all that work you’ve been doing in your free time.

9.Skills

A good way to present your personal skills is complementing them with an example, because a long list of skills such as “proactive”, “responsible” or “leader” don’t add any value by themselves. We recommend to choose your 3 best skills and give them some support with a goal achieved thanks to them.

10.Extract

A 4 or 5 lines summary of your career allows the reader to understand your professional profile before reading the whole document. Include a short description of your position and your most relevant experience. The last part should be focused on what you’d like to do in your next position.

11.Social Media

If you use social media to promote your work, obviously there must be a link to them in your cv. On the contrary, if your Linkedin, Instagram or Twitter is full of your personal life pictures or opinions, it is better not to include them in your cv.

12.Telecommuting

In the software programming world it is very common to find professionals who are not interested at working in a company where their presence in the office is required every day. If you are only interested in telecommuting, this is an important information that should be listed in your résumé.

Expatriate engineers or brain drain?

When people talk about Spanish engineers who work outside Spain, one of first thoughts is that we are exporting the talent that is formed in the country and losing the investment made in our education system. And certainly, many professionals have found an opportunity to work abroad, but others work for national companies in international projects outside our borders.

The big difference between migrating and being expatriated

To understand better this specific point we should know clearly the two different types of Spanish engineers that work abroad. First of all, there are expatriates who are professionals who work for companies, usually Spanish companies, for a certain time. Secondly, there are engineers who go abroad in search of job opportunities or to seek better conditions or improve their professional experience.

For this fact, the country implication is different in both parts. If we talk about the expatriation of Spanish engineers we can see the high confidence that our professionals generate internationally due to their technical knowledge although theirs costs are higher than national engineers.

The projects that demand more expatriates

Nowadays, engineering that most require expatriation are those related to EPC world, which are companies that are responsible of building works and facilities under the modality of “turnkey”.

EPC (Engineering, Purchase and Construction) are the largest projects companies today. In this way, sectors that usually require the largest number of expatriates are energy, oil, industry, infrastructure and civil construction.

At present, Spain and European countries has many potent infrastructures that underdeveloped countries do not have, and they are starting to develop this type of projects. The most frequent expatriate’s destination countries are South America, the Middle East and the countries of Northeast Asia.

Round-trip ticket

On the other hand, there are many emigrates people who go out abroad searching better options. For example, there are many renewable energy engineers who found projects in their area, in northern Europe and especially in Germany.

Thereby, our country conditions have generated this migratory tendency, so we must learn about it and take measures so that professionals who went out buy a return ticket in the future.

Spain is a country that creates a very strong bond and roots. Currently, Engineers who are working outside of Spain are acquiring professional experience that helps them to develop highly valued skills in the field of engineering.

It is a matter of the country generating the beneficial employment conditions so that, the talent that is abroad, can bring back home all knowledges that will contribute to improving the sector productivity.

We do not always worry about having a better cv according to the demands of the market. We think that once we have finished writing our resumé, the work is done and we usually forget that a constant updating is essential when we are looking for a job. In this post we want to offer you some tips, as a headhunting Company, to make the most of your cv.

1.Irrelevant work experiences

At some point we have all been, monitors, baby-sitters or maybe worked for a short time in some small company. Experiences that are too distant in time or short-term jobs contribute little to your CV if they are not related to the job you are currently looking for. Everything you have done in your professional career is important because it has taken you to where you are today, but for the search of a new opportunity, you must be strict: Focus on developing the professional experiences that show relevant data, including those that give meaning to the chronological order of your career. Also remove unnecessary experiences and sum up those that do not have much value for your next job.

2. Highly personal information

Recruiters need very little personal information to contact you. Civil status, family situation, your origin or other personal information are not relevant for a selection process and it can lead to discrimination. In some countries taking some of these data into account is illegal. Therefore, do not hesitate to open your cv again and remove this kind of information.

3. Hobbies

Unless your hobbies are closely related to your work, it is better not to include them. You only have a maximum of two pages to describe your professional experience, focus on it and make the most of the space.

4. References

When a recruiter take a look to your resume for the first time, it is probably because she/he is starting a new selection process. What a recruiter really cares about is your professional experience, training and general skills, in order to know whether you fit into the position or not.

5. Non-Functional designs

Nowdays there is a fierce competition among candidates to get a job. This leads to a lot of candidates to look for a way to stand out, using new cv formats, sometimes too original and not very functional. What really matters about the CV is the content, your experience, achievements and aptitudes. Using a too creative format, can be counterproductive because when the information is not easy to find or understand.

The same thing happens when using tables, images or graphics that do not express the information explicitly. Unless you are looking for a job where creativity is well valued, we recommend to remove this type of elements and write clear information instead. Keep in mind that recruiters often have to make reports about the final candidates and it is advisable that your document helps them in this task instead of making it more complicated.

6. Contact information

If you want to be sure that your future employer will be able to contact you, pay attention your contact details, do not include the e-mail address or mobile from the company you are currently working for. The professional thing to do is to include your personal mobile and e-mail.

7. Funny e-mail address

Very related to the previous point, we recommend to have an e-mail address with your first and last name. Although it is very common having a funny e-mail address or with the name they used to call you affectionately as a child, using it in your cv don’t give a good impression. In general, they will not stop contacting you because of your email, but if you want to make a good impression from the first moment, it is better to open a new account for your professional life.

8. Company’s own vocabulary

There are many companies that have a particular nomenclature for internal procedures or technologies. This office vocabulary only makes sense within the organization itself, outside of it, those words lose any coherent meaning. To help the person who reads your cv, we recommend to remove all these words and use a generic name instead

9. Cliché abilities

If you are going to have a section to talk about your abilities or aptitudes, we advise you to avoid the use of cliché words, unless you follow it by a concise example or description of an achievement related to such ability. “Results- oriented” “multitasking” “formidable communication skills”, among other descriptions, are so cliché that they need to be followed by a concrete example to recover their meaning. Instead of “result oriented” you must describe, for example: Compliance with 80% of individual sales targets, reaching 3 new loyalty accounts.

A CV where your professional achievements are highlighted will always be much more effective, because the reader gets a clearer idea about you and what you can offer to a new project.

Nowadays, the women’s presence in companies is a fact. The female presence percentage into boards of directors of IBEX 35 companies has increased almost ten points in last six years, reaching a similar figures to European average. However, there is a long way to achieve the 40% goal in boards of directors, established in the Spanish Equality Act of 2007.

Women´s presence is not the same in all sectors. Sectors such as engineering, logistics, construction, industry and transports have lower female presence.

On the opposite side, there are positions related to human resources, finance, pharma, marketing and sales, where women have a higher presence management positions and have a more prominent role. Although in this cases, the highest executive positions continue being men.

Nonetheless, exist a positive point in the equality way. From selection consultancies we have noticed a remarkable tendency about women´s hiring in mostly male sectors. For example, this is being noticed in IT sector.

In any case, we must bear in mind that women and men have a certain work disposition in certain sectors, either by labor tradition or social stereotypes. For this reason, lower female presence in management positions have relation with lower female presence in the rest of different rank positions.

A female manager from 35 to 60 years old faces one of the main obstacles on the way to promotion in her profession: family and labor reconciliation, which today, continue being an exclusive problem in the female gender.

Although, it has been realized many social policies about improving the female flexibility and equality in the tasks distribution with man, in the last years. But the problem it is far away to be solved. In the same way, wage gap continue being a big obstacle to break the glass ceiling. In spite of efforts to correct this problem, female wages continue being worst paid that opposite gender. According to the last Salary Structure Survey realized by UGT, in 2015 women continued earn money 23,3% less than their men coworkers, reducing standard of living.

On the other hand, gender prejudices exist in some professions making difficult the women promotion of command positions. Work style is also different between men and women, but this does not call the attention to all the directors, although it has been discovered that there is a relationship between profitability and gender. In this way, companies with the highest number of women in high responsibility positions or managers have greater profitability.

The labor market should move along to parity, breaking with all glass ceiling types. In addition, it is a talent recruitment question also competitive and strategic advantages will improve. Companies with work policies which supporting the work and family life reconciliation and having an equity wages will help us to achieve a more equity market between genders.
